O’s Notes: Contemporary jazz bassist Jimmy Haslip teams up with
electronic keyboardist Joe Vanelli to compose and produce a fresh
collection of jazz-fusion. Brass comes courtesy of Bob Mintzer (sax),
Steve Tavaglione (sax) and Wayne Bergeron (t). Jason Hann (congas, perc)
and Jimmy Branly (bongos, timbales) add funky accents to develop a
signature sound that is syncopated with enticing riffs throughout the
set. We liked the cool Latin vibe of “Casa De Oro” and “Palo Alto”. Lori
Perry sings the soulful “Deep Waters”, the lone vocal track balancing a
very good session.
